About the project
Starting from sharing our own experiences with body hair, we did online research, including looking at classical paintings and sculptures from art history, from Frida Kahlo to Ancient Greek statues.
Then we moved to interviews, that we conducted with our university peers first, and then expanded into the Blaak area and the library.
We used cultural probes, giving people a blank template of a woman illustration, hairless, and asking them to add hair to it. We aimed to uncover hidden biases and what they deem as normal.
We also posted a poll to a question, that later turned into a conversation starter installation, with animations showing their answer in real time. The question was extreme, to bring to light their true preferences.
